Sipping Sober: SITC Tampa 2024 The Ultimate AF Event

A Weekend to Remember: Sober In the City
Tampa Edition

SITC, you outdid yourself yet again!

🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

February saw another AMAZING experience at the Zero Proof Experiences SITC (Sober in the City) event – this time in Tampa, Florida, and it was nothing short of spectacular! The adventures were endless, the connections were real, and every moment was a joyful step towards discovering or rediscovering the fun of living AF (alcohol-free).

It’s always a ‘choose your own adventure’ format at SITC and this time we participated in pickleball, sunrise walks, coaster-making, dancing, and LOTS of workshops.

Friday welcomed us with open arms, starting with a Coffee Connect that seamlessly transitioned into an energetic round of Pop-Up Pickleball. The vibe? Absolutely electric. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, the afternoon rolled in with a Solo Social and mocktails that danced on our tastebuds. But the highlight? The evening's Meet and Greet, featuring the brilliant minds behind some of the most thought-provoking reads in the sober sphere. Conversations flowed as freely as the appetizers, setting the stage for the unforgettable Pink Flamingo Dance Party that had us all moving and grooving into the night.

Saturday dawned, starting with a soulful sunrise walk that breathed new life into our bodies, ready for the adventures ahead. The day was packed with workshops that ranged from writing our recovery stories to mastering the art of living confidently in a world soaked in alcohol. Every session was a gem, offering insights and inspirations that were both grounding and transformative. The Main Event in the evening was the cherry on top, with sumptuous meals, zero-proof delights, and a keynote speech by Becky Vollmer that left us all buzzing with energy and empowerment.

The real magic of SITC TAMPA, was the people

There are a lot of things that make Sober In The City experiences special, and one of the major things is getting face time with incredible authors!

For the recent SITC Tampa event, Zeroproof Experiences (ZPE) really outdid themselves because we had the opportunity to interact with a total of 6 (including ZPE Chief Connections Officer Peggi Cooney)!!!

Read below to learn about these incredible bestselling trailblazers!

Becky Vollmer is an author, speaker, yoga teacher, and founder of You Are Not Stuck®️, and she's on a mission to empower you from settling in life.

"You Are Not Stuck®️: How Soul-Guided Choices Transform Fear into Freedom is a blend of straight talk, humor, and clear steps for action to help change-seekers reset their priorities, drown out the naysaying voices in their heads, and make bold choices."

I've been following Becky for years, so it was pretty amazing to get so much face time with her all weekend! She brought humor, resonance, inspiration and her big heart to her keynote speech and Sunday workshop!

Dr. Brooke Scheller is a doctor of clinical nutrition, the founder of Functional Sobriety, and the author of How to Eat to Change How You Drink: Heal Your Gut, Mend Your Mind, and Improve Nutrition to Change Your Relationship with Alcohol.

Because I'm a Health Coach and nutrition nerd, I was very excited to meet Dr. Brooke! Nutrition plays a crucial role in healing the body and brain once alcohol is removed, making it an important part of my coaching programs with my Gray Area Drinking clients.

After her presentation, I had a chance to get a signed copy of her book and give her a calm strip*, which she immediately stuck on her phone!! How fun is that?!

(*Calm Strips are reusable textured sensory stickers. They’re actually very popular with schools, as they are designed to help regulate restless energy and increase focus.)

Ann Dowsett Johnston is an award-winning journalist, author, and psychotherapist. In 2013, Ann wrote Drink: The Intimate Relationship Between Women and Alcohol, a book named one of the top 10 of the year by the Washington Post. "Part memoir, part journalistic exploration, the book exposes the 'pinking' of the alcohol industry."

She brought a few copies of her book that's sold in New Zealand because it has a beautiful pink cover, which was the color theme of our entire SITC weekend!! I'm excited I was able to snag a copy!

FYI, in April, she'll be launching her powerful 8 week online memoir-writing course, "Write Your Recovery" and it sounds amazing!

I had the opportunity to hear Todd Kinney, author of I Didn't Believe it Either: One Dad's Discovery That Everything Is Better Without Alcohol, speak on a Zoom call for the ZPE Connect Members back in January, and I couldn't wait to meet him in person! In his book, he shares his "raw, honest, and often amusing account of his path to sobriety, which will make you rethink the possibilities that come with breaking free from alcohol’s grip, revealing a life more vibrant than he ever imagined."

Peggy Cooney, author of This Side of Alcohol is a speaker, social worker, trainer, coach and AF advocate “who shares her random thoughts of pain, hope, humor, love, and all that is possible in sobriety.”

She also happens to be the ZPE Chief Connections Officer! In my blog recap from SITC Maine, I shared a personal story of how I connected with this amazing human when I was still struggling (but getting closer to freedom).

It's an honor and a great joy of mine to now call her a dear friend.

Meg Geisweite, is a speaker and author of Intoxicating Lies: One Woman's Journey to Freedom from Gray Area Drinking. She's been “changing the narrative on the mommy wine culture, the hustle culture, and our pro-drinking culture. In her book, Meg flips the script on the five most intoxicating lies we tell ourselves about alcohol and that we are enough.”

Meg and I have been chatting online and through snail mail for about a year now! It was incredible to meet her in the flesh!! On Friday night, Meg partnered with Sober Coach Heather Lowe, of Ditched The Drink to lead a fun and insightful interactive group activity called "The Intoxicating Lies We Believed Before We Ditched The Drink." It was a beautiful opportunity to find resonance with fellow attendees!

Our Sober In The City Tampa experience ended with the opportunity to attend an empowering workshop led by Becky Vollmer, author of “You Are Not Stuck.” ☺️💖

Becky led us through “three hours of guided breath, purposeful movement and self-exploration designed to connect to your deepest self and empower your next steps on life’s journey.”

This experience was incredibly transformative and inspiring. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

We moved our bodies, tapped into our breath, released tension and tears, got vulnerable, and held a safe space for healing in the process. 🧘‍♀️🥲❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Let me tell you - there is NOTHING more inspiring than witnessing dozens of badass women who ditched the booze and found a way to start all over, transform, and heal while supporting one another. 🦋😌💕💕

"What feelings do you want to cultivate? What kind of mindset do you want to have? How do you want to feel?"

"I want to feel empowered to create experiences for individuals to heal & live their happiest lives.

To continue to lead by example.

To use my voice & creativity for my highest good and the highest good of others."

and

"I want to heal what alcohol took away from me."

So, if you're yearning for connection, growth, and a heck of a good time without the booze, SITC is your ticket to paradise.

“Experience a journey that redefines the way you connect, grow, and explore in beautiful destinations. Join like-minded individuals from across the globe for a transformative weekend of empowerment, connection, and unforgettable moments.”
