Celebrating Love: Togetherness Through Thick and Thin! ❤️💍

Kristin and Evan Horstman celebrating 17 years of marriage

My personal love story, celebrating 17 years of marriage and the remarkable healing power of love in OVERCOMING life's darkest moments.

The world is full of poetry. The air is living with its spirit, and the waves dance to the music of its melodies and sparkle in its brightness.

25 1/2 years ago, something special happened. I met a man, and a wonderful love story began… and it has been a beautiful journey ever since. 😍💕

Today marks the 17th Anniversary of married bliss with the love of my life, Evan. ♥️😍

Evan’s proposal on December 24th, 2004 is a memory etched in my heart forever.

We were on a carriage ride in Central Park. 🌳 He handed me some beautiful roses of different colors, and on them, he had taped some words, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” The last rose was the only red one 🌹 and it held the question, “Will you marry me?” along with the ring 💍 As he went down on one knee, the carriage still in motion, my heart overflowed with joy, and tears streamed down my face. It was an unforgettable moment of sheer happiness. 😭 🥰😍❤️💍🌳

Evan is the kindest and most thoughtful person I know. He has been my rock and my safe haven, filling my life with love and warmth. Even during the darkest days when I was trapped in the prison of alcohol and depression, he remained by my side, steadfast and supportive. His love acted as a beacon of hope, guiding me out of my alcohol prison. 😍🙏🏻

His unwavering faith in me reminded me of the movie “What Dreams May Come,” where Robin Williams braved the depths of Hell 👹 to rescue his wife from her nightmare. Just like him, Evan recognized that the real me was still there, underneath all the pain and suffering, and he never left my side. Not once.

His refusal to let me hit rock bottom, despite the pressure from others, spoke volumes about his deep love and respect for me. If you’d like to learn more about my journey into and out of an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and how Evan’s love-first approach was instrumental in my recovery go to my blog article, Breaking the Cycle of Substance Abuse: The Power of Science and Kindness.

Today, as we celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary, I'm filled with gratitude. I've spent more years of my life with Evan than without him, and I wouldn't want it any other way. My journey with him has been a testament to the power of love and its capacity to heal.

If I took all of the bad things that ever happened in my life and piled them sky high, I know in my heart that I’m still ahead in the game of life because Evan is by my side. ❤️

Every day together is a gift, a chance to experience life in all its vibrancy and beauty. Freeing myself from the clutches of alcohol has allowed me to truly appreciate these moments of togetherness. It's reaffirmed that by removing the negatives, we make room for love and magic to enter our lives.

So, here's to Evan, to us, and to a long life together of love-filled adventures.

Thank you, my love, for making this world a poetic place for me. Thank you for your love, your support, your thoughtfulness, and for making me feel safe - ALWAYS. 😍🌊🐟🦀🐚⛵️❤️
